Lighting

energy efficient lighting

Lighting alone can account for approximately 23% of the home’s energy consumption, yet this percentage can be significantly decreased by using lighting more efficiently and purchasing efficient bulbs.  The first step is only using lights when and where you need them.  This means shutting off lights when they are not in use, and figuring out which lights are used most frequently and replacing them with low wattage bulbs.

CFLPurchasing compact fluorescent light bulbs can also save energy.  They use a ¼ of the power of incandescent bulbs while producing the same brightness & color.  If every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with a compact fluorescent, it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road.
