Financial incentives

What incentives will help pay for the cost of a new solar installation?

Solar incentives for...

Incentives for solar energy systems are better than ever! Oregonians may receive financial incentives from up to 3 funding sources to help pay for their solar installations. In general, these incentives are additive, and can be combined.

1.     Federal tax benefits: New federal tax credits were recently passed for solar energy systems placed in service by December 31, 2008.

For more information, request a free copy of the Solar Energy Industries Association's Guide to Federal Tax Incentives for Solar Energy.

2.     Oregon state energy tax credits: Since 1977 Oregon has offered state income tax credits for investments in solar.

3.     Utility-funded incentives: The Energy Trust of Oregon offers cash incentives to Oregon customers of Portland General Electric, Pacific Power, NW Natural and Cascade Natural Gas, with certain eligibility requirements.  Some publicly owned utilities in Oregon also offer solar incentives to their customers.

Renewable energy incentives for each US state can be found at dsire-usa.org

As energy prices continue to rise, solar energy systems are becoming more and more cost effective.  The incentives will change over time, so be sure to check here for updated information in the future.
